Alexandra Salmela (b. 1980) has written numerous poems, fairytales, stories and dramas. She has participated in many writing competitions, from which she has received a few acknowledgements, and has even won one prize. With her debut novel 27, or Death Makes an Artist she was nominated for the Finlandia Prize and won the Debutant of the Year Prize arranged by Helsingin Sanomat, the biggest news paper in Finland.

Salmela studied theatre dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and obtained an MA in Finnish Language and Literature at Charles University in Prague. These days she lives in between town and country in Finland, and is considering what to do with her life next.
